If you are listening to a song and notice that you’ve stopped your regular thing that you do, and you notice that you are swaying back and forth, and you notice that time is not quite what it was three and a half minutes ago, chances are you are listening to a song in 3/4 time, or something sorta like 3/4. These songs are different than the others. They take us to another place where we feel wistful and contemplative; dreamy and sad. Or hopeful. That’s the thing about 3/4 time. It takes us from where we are and puts us someone else. It’s like a little vacation from the day-to-day.
